Mowing and maintenance
A basic cut covers mowing, string-trimming and blowing hard surfaces. Weekly maintenance plans at $50–$150 per visit usually add edging, bed weeding or seasonal tasks. Ask whether clippings are left on the lawn (AgriLife recommends it for bermuda) or bagged for an extra charge. Details on lawn mowing and lawn maintenance plans.
Fertilization and weed control
AgriLife's bermuda guide calls for fertilizing after green-up when late frost is unlikely, soil testing first, and skipping fertilizer from September through February unless the lawn is overseeded. A program with several rounds will cost more up front than a single application. For pre-emergent and spot treatments, see weed control and fertilization.
Sod, landscaping and trees
Installed sod at about $1–$3 per square foot includes material, delivery and labor; preparing caliche-heavy or compacted ground can push the price up. Landscaping ranges are wide because a front-yard refresh with mulch and a few native plants is a very different job from a full backyard rebuild. See sod installation, water-wise landscaping, tree trimming and yard cleanup.
In Texas, anyone who applies weed killers, insect or grub control, or other pesticides to a lawn for hire must hold a Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) applicator license. Fertilizer-only applications do not require one. Before you hire, ask for the company's TDA license number and verify it with TDA.
In Texas, sprinkler and irrigation installation, repair and maintenance for hire must be done by, or under the supervision of, a TCEQ-licensed Landscape Irrigator, whose LI license number must appear on their advertising. Homeowners may work on their own home's system. Ask for the LI number and verify it with TCEQ. Backflow testing requires a TCEQ-licensed backflow prevention assembly tester.
