A simpler way to find lawn service in Lubbock

Skip calling around and waiting for callbacks. Tell us once what your yard needs, and we pass your request to independent local companies that do that work. They contact you with quotes; you compare and decide. There is no cost and no obligation.

We do not do the lawn work ourselves. The company you choose sets its own price, schedules the visits and is responsible for its work. Lubbock Lawn Care Pros is an independent quote service and is not affiliated with any lawn care company of a similar name.

What makes lawn care in Lubbock different

It is dry. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport show 18.33 inches of precipitation a year, about 70% of it from April through September. With a July average high of 93.4 °F, summer lawns lean on irrigation.

The grass is mostly warm-season. Texas A&M AgriLife lists bermudagrass and buffalograss as good fits for the area. Common bermuda is mowed at 1–2 inches, buffalograss at 2.5–3 inches. St. Augustinegrass needs much more water in West Texas.

Watering follows a city schedule. Lubbock assigns two watering days by the last digit of your address and does not allow Sunday irrigation. From April 1 to September 30 the City's guidance lists watering hours of midnight to 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. to midnight and about 1.5 inches per zone per week. Check the current schedule and any drought stage at mylubbock.us before you set your controller.

Wind and alkaline soil

Spring is the windiest season, drying turf and blowing debris into beds. Soils around Lubbock (series such as Amarillo, Acuff and Olton) are wind-laid and alkaline, with a calcium-carbonate layer typically 30–60 inches down. Alkaline soil can cause iron chlorosis (yellowing), so ask about a soil test before fertilizing.

A short, busy season

The median last spring freeze is April 4 and the median first fall freeze is November 2; NOAA puts the freeze-free season at about 210 days. Search interest in lawn care peaks in June and July, so requesting quotes in spring gives you more choice of start dates.

Before you hire: Texas license basics

Weed and pest treatments for hire need a Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) applicator license, and sprinkler work for hire must be done by or under a TCEQ-licensed Landscape Irrigator. Ask for the license number and verify it with the agency. Texas has no state license for tree trimming. Read the Texas lawn care license rules for details. This is general information, not legal advice.

Lawn care questions from Lubbock homeowners

How much does lawn care cost in Lubbock?

Online cost guides report about $27 to $89 per mowing visit in Lubbock, roughly $36 to $49 for a quarter-acre lot, and $50 to $150 per visit for broader weekly maintenance. These are estimates, not quotes. Yard size, grass height, slopes and add-ons such as edging or bagging change the price, so compare written quotes from local companies.

What are Lubbock's watering days?

The City of Lubbock assigns two days by the last digit of your address: 0, 3, 4 or 9 water Monday and Thursday; 1, 5 or 6 water Tuesday and Friday; 2, 7 or 8 water Wednesday and Saturday. There is no Sunday irrigation, and hand watering is allowed any time. Check the current schedule and any drought stage at mylubbock.us before you set your controller.

What grass grows well in Lubbock?

Texas A&M AgriLife says bermudagrass and buffalograss suit the area. Buffalograss is best adapted for areas with annual rainfall of 25 inches or less, and Lubbock averages about 18.33 inches. St. Augustinegrass needs much more supplemental irrigation in West Texas and may be killed by severe winters in the northern third of Texas. Zoysia is adapted where bermuda is.

Is this a lawn care company?

No. Lubbock Lawn Care Pros is a free quote service. We connect Lubbock-area homeowners with independent local lawn care, landscaping, sprinkler and tree companies for free, no-obligation quotes. The company you choose sets its own price, schedules the work and is responsible for it. You are never required to hire anyone.

Do lawn companies need a license to spray weeds in Texas?

Yes. In Texas, anyone who applies weed killers, insect or grub control, or other pesticides to a lawn for hire must hold a Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) applicator license. Fertilizer-only applications do not require one. Weed-and-feed products contain herbicide. Before you hire, ask for the company's TDA license number and verify it with TDA.
